This Midlothian home needed a proper outdoor space - a clean, functional way to step outside and actually use the yard. What was there before just wasn't cutting it. So we built something that would.
We went with pressure treated lumber throughout - solid framing, consistent decking boards, and a full railing system with capped post tops. The whole structure sits level off the back of the house and connects directly to the screened porch entry, which made the layout feel intentional rather than pieced together. The stair run off the side gives easy access down to the driveway, which was a big part of how this space needed to flow.
One thing we pay close attention to on deck builds is how the railing comes together. Consistent baluster spacing, tight joints, square post bases - those details don't just look better, they hold up longer. Sloppy framing and loose connections are where decks start to fail over time. We're not interested in doing it that way.
A deck like this does a lot for a property. It adds usable square footage outside, it ties the home's entry points together, and it gives you somewhere to actually be when you step outside. For homeowners in the Midlothian area looking to add that kind of value - both practical and aesthetic - a well-built deck is one of the better investments you can make in your home.
Every deck we build is framed to last. The materials, the structure, the finish work - it all gets the same level of attention whether it's a simple platform or something more complex. This one came out clean, and the homeowners have a great new space to enjoy.
