Malden Hill is a wedding venue, and that means every detail of the outdoor space has to hold up - not just visually, but functionally. Guests arrive expecting something polished. Something that feels intentional. That was the target going into this build.
We installed a Belgard paver pad with a step entry, a freestanding Belgard wall with capped columns, and outdoor lighting tucked right into the stonework. The wall wraps the perimeter of the patio in a way that defines the space without closing it off. You still get those wide open views of the property - rolling lawn, mature trees, open sky. That was important to preserve.
The lighting was wired directly into the wall and columns so there are no exposed cords running across the space. At night, that warm glow comes up from the base of the wall and strings of lights span across the posts overhead. It works for a daytime cocktail hour just as well as it does for an evening reception. That kind of flexibility matters for a venue.
Belgard is our go-to for commercial hardscape work like this. The material holds up under heavy foot traffic and looks consistent across a large installation. The texture and color of the block we used here complement the barn's wood siding without competing with it - the whole space reads as one cohesive setting rather than a patio that was just dropped in front of a building.
Projects like this are a good reminder that hardscape isn't just about function. Done right, it sets the tone for everything happening around it. This patio gives Malden Hill a proper outdoor gathering space that works day or night, season after season.
