Most backyards in the Richmond area have way more potential than people realize. A sloped lot, a two-story home, an unused patch of dirt - those aren't obstacles. They're opportunities. That's exactly what we were working with on this build in Walton Park.
We designed and built a two-level Trex Carmel composite deck that connects directly to the home on the upper floor and steps down to a large lower platform. Two staircases give you easy access from both sides of the yard. The layout makes the whole backyard feel intentional - not just usable, but actually enjoyable.
One of the biggest reasons homeowners choose Trex composite over traditional wood is maintenance. No staining, no sealing, no worrying about the boards rotting or warping after a few summers. Trex is built to hold up, and the Carmel color is one of those tones that looks sharp against both brick and light siding - which you can see plays really well with this home's exterior.
The railing system ties it all together. White posts paired with dark metal balusters - it's a combination that reads clean and modern without being flashy. From a structural standpoint, both levels are properly supported and safe for everyday use, whether that's a weekend cookout or just a quiet evening outside.
A deck like this doesn't just add square footage to your outdoor space. It gives you a reason to actually use your backyard. If you've been sitting on the idea of a composite deck build, this is the kind of result that makes it worth the investment.
